Travelling Around

By Bus
The Central Bus Station is located in the middle of Alicante city centre and offers regular daily services to the most important Spanish cities. There are weekly buses that travel to many European countries.

By Rail
A vast railway network joins Alicante with the rest of the country. Renfe, the national railway service, offers daily Altaria and Talgos (express trains) to Madrid, whilst visitors from Barcelona can choose the Euromed. Other trains such as the Talgo among others link the city to other interesting parts of Spain.

Alicante has been a pioneer in servicing regular airlines that link the city with foreign destinations. El Altet international airport is located only ten minutes away from the town centre and the number of charter flights is among the highest in the whole of Spain. There are also several regular services to connect Alicante with the main Spanish cities, Europe and the North of Africa.

By Sea
Alicante port is also an important stopover location for many cruise liners around the Mediterranean.

Beyond Alicante
The city of Alicante is also well connected with other destinations in the Costa Blanca. The local buses are frequent and easy, and places such as the beaches are very easily accessible. The Trenet de la Marina is an especially interesting tourist attraction. From the city of Alicante you can also take the tram to San Juan beach and El Campello, two important tourist resorts. From there on, the trenet (a narrow-gauge train travelling along the coast offering great views of the coastal towns) travels on to Benidorm, Altea, Calpe and Denia. For those who enjoy a late night out, during July and August it also runs at night, when it is known as the Trensnochador (the late night train). Another service is the so-called Tren Senderista (Trekking Train), offering excursions through the region for contemplating relaxing panoramic views of the natural landscapes of the area.

You can enjoy a pleasant tourist trip around the marina, by taking the Turitrén, a tourist train that, during July and August, travels along the sea front, from the sports marina to Panoramis shopping centre.

The island of Tabarca is accessible with the boats that do the trip between the marina and the island’s little harbour, every day during the summer months and on Thursdays and weekends during the rest of the year. Tabarca is the only inhabited island in the Valencian Community and its surrounding waters have been officially declared a Mediterranean marine nature reserve. The reserve is considered a prime example of virtually undamaged Mediterranean marine life, given the excellent quality of its waters and the biodiversity of its fauna and flora. Tabarca is also famous for its gastronomy, based on fish.
